Setagrip looks to nature to find the answer. It’s no secret that the greatest innovations come from nature. Nature has inspired solutions for everyday challenges including those in design. Scientists have studied the feet of geckos and have found that they contain physical properties that promote stickiness. Using biomimicry, we studied the gecko and began looking into micro-suction technology. This technology uses millions of micro-sized pores, vacuum and negative air pressure to securely adhere any object to a relatively flat, non-porous surface. We applied this technique into our flooring manufacturing process and Setagrip was born.
Setagrip uses millions of micro-sized pores, vacuum and negative air pressure to securely adhere any object to a relatively flat, non-porous surface. When the flooring is pressed against the surface, the pores act like millions of miniature suction cups and create a large vacuum, generating a strong suction force that can hold a tremendous amount of weight.
This is very different to the common ‘looselay’ systems that rely on non-adhesive tread pattern to stay in place, which in many installations, does not work, and actually requires the use of adhesive or double sided tape to prevent movement. Setagrip is an entirely new concept in the installation of floors without adhesives and allows easy removal without residue, and makes installation/repairs quicker than any other flooring products on the market.
Although it may not be obvious, having no adhesives is a big deal. If for some reason a single plank becomes damaged, you can easily pry it up with a putty knife and replace it in minutes. Unlike traditional glue down systems, there will be no messy glue residue to deal with. For click systems, if a single plank is damaged, the entire plank from wall to wall will need to be removed.
The other advantage of not having to use adhesives is that it is safer. Adhesives emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like formaldehyde that are hazardous to one’s health. Additionally, since Setagrip floors use 100% virgin vinyl, there are almost zero VOCs and phthalates in the product, making a safe and durable flooring for hospitals, assisted living facilities and homes.
Setagrip will be offered by Shannon Specialty Floors and its representatives and independent agents in Alaska, Ariz., Ark., Calif., Colo., Hawaii, Iowa, Kan., Idaho, Ill., Minn., Mo., Mont., Neb., Nev., N.M., N.D., Okla., Ore., S.D., Texas, Utah, Wash., Wis. and Wyo.
